When I was around 17 years old, I was given a great responsibility: to handle our church‘s youth ministry. At the back of my mind I thought, “Why me? I’m so young! I need someone to guide and inspire me!” “How will I handle the youth when I’m still in the process of growing??”
But God had a plan. I prayed and just obeyed His directions.
Now that I’m over 2o years old, I’m still here, handling our youth ministry.
I have learned a lot and have grown through the years, but one thing hasn’t changed: I AM STILL IN THE PROCESS OF GROWING. I STILL need guidance and inspiration!
It’s never about the age.
We all need to constantly grow.
We all need to be constantly guided.
We all need to be constantly inspired.
I’ve joined inspirational workshops, organized inspirational talks, watched inspirational videos, but there’s always something more.
Last year, God reminded me of the law of planting and reaping. That’s it! He revealed to me that I needed to plant what I need. He taught me about the importance of having a group of people that aren’t just willing to have fun, but would always be there to help you grow.
I have this dire need of meaningful conversations. I always have the desire to have conversations that matter (not just conversations about the latest chikka, if you know what I mean!).
I envied people who were so inspiring, people who had their own groups that helped them be the best version of themselves.
Then I stumbled upon this quote: Sometimes you gotta create what you want to be a part of.
I knew what I had to do.
So last year, I began a little project of my own with the goal of empowering the girls of our youth ministry. I want to get to know them, impart what I learn, have fun and bond with them. I call this project “Set-Apart Girls”.
“Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.”
It was actually inspired by Leslie Ludy’s website, who made me realize that all girls (and boys) have something in them that, once discovered, could help them be the best version of themselves.
Now I’m so glad to share that I, along with the girls of our youth ministry, already have monthly small gatherings where we meet, eat, and talk about virtually anything that improves us as individuals!
I’m happy to see that these girls have that desire to grow and learn. They weren’t afraid to share their struggles, we were all glad to help each other overcome them. And, most rewarding of all, they apply what we talk about and proudly share its benefits!
I’m sharing this because I want you to believe that you have so much greatness inside of you! If you want to grow, be inspired, and learn more - find someone you can empower!
I encourage you to organize meet-ups and facilitate meaningful conversations with friends, family members, anyone! Here’s how we do it:
- We meet every month.
- We limit the size of our group to around 8-10 people to make sure that everyone has a chance to talk and everyone will listen (also, that way, they won’t hesitate to share)
- We prepare certain topics or questions to talk about – from there we keep the conversation flowing!
Sample topics you can start with (if you have any other topics in mind, please do share!):
- To-do list while waiting for your future partner? (I’ll blog about this soon!)
- How can you influence (in a good way) through social media? (Dos and Don’ts)
- What are the signs of insecurity?
- Girl power! What are your strengths? How can you use them to help other people and to glorify God?
There are endless possibilities! The keys is to NEVER STOP GROWING & NEVER STOP INSPIRING yourself and other people! Do that, and prepare to be blown away at what happens after.
Stay inspired! <3
